A short programme was organised in DCT’s Vasantrao Dempo HSS of Arts, Science and Commerce, Cujira on the eve of the day to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti, Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti and Maha Saptami on 1st October 2022, in the Audio Visual room, at 12:15 PM.
The event started with a floral tribute to Goddess Saraswati and Mahatma Gandhi, followed by the Principal Mrs. Surekha Kelkar addressing the gathering. This was followed by a beautiful speech given by Miss Pratistha Shenoy on the Father of the Nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Next, there was harmonious rendering of voices by our students to singing of “Vaishnava janato”, a devotional hymn which became popular during the life time of Mahatma Gandhi and was rendered as a bhajan in his Sabarmati Ashram by vocalists and instrumentalists.
Along with Gandhi jayanti we also celebrate Maha Saptami on the occasion of which our school’s librarian, teacher Mrs Vidhya Joshi spoke about Goddess Saraswati and the importance of the day.
Senior Teacher, Mrs Maya Sardesai on the occasion recited two poems, one on ‘Gandhiji’ and another on a less known prominent figure and second Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri . This was followed by more information about Lal Bahadur Shastri spoken by Armaan sait through a speech. Master Manthan Shirodkar recited a poem on Gandhiji.
The things Gandhiji has done for India is an unpayable debt but he can be honored with the remembrance of his achievements, these ideas were shared to us by Miss Kaveena Fernandes. Mahatma Gandhi’s childhood is something all might not know of. To share the information about it Miss Saisha Kankonkar presented his childhood to the Audience in the form of a story. Miss Hannah De Souza spoke about Mahatma Gandhi in the Indian National language, Hindi .
The programme was compered by Miss Joan Gonsalves while the Vote of Thanks was given by Miss Palomi Sapte.
The programme was also attended by Vice-Principal, Miss Minaxi Mudaliar, students of std XI Arts stream and Commerce stream, and teachers of all three faculties.
The programme co-ordinators were senior teacher Mr. Shirish Bhide and Mrs. Amelia Barreto, Teacher In-charge of Students Council, and assisted by teacher Mrs. Shilpa Silimcano and Students Council members.
